How did I Start my Decluttering Journey?

How did I Start my Decluttering Journey?

Most people feel overwhelmed when thinking about decluttering, and I get it perfectly because I used to feel the same way. The overwhelm grew more every time as more things started to accumulate because I felt paralysed and had no idea where to start, but the only way to overcome this, even if I didn’t want to accept it, was to take action and finally start my decluttering journey.

Weeks passed by and nothing was changing. The the dread of thinking about how many things I had to do, how long was the process going to take, how many things I had to decide on weather to keep or to throw away and how much time, which as a business owner and mom of two little ones is one of the main things that I lack, were keeping me form taking any kind of action, while my frustration kept growing.

One day I just got tired of feeling that way and decided to do something about it. Maybe I wasn’t going to do everything perfectly, or do everything at once, or have a perfectly organised home in a matter of days. Still, I decided that it was ok to accept an imperfect process, to put aside all the overwhelm of thinking about the whole process and start using even 20 minutes every time I could and do everything one step at a time.

So that’s exactly what I did! I made a list of every space of my home and every furniture that needed to be organised and decluttered. Then I just started one drawer at a time and I started celebrating every small win. At the beginning it was hard because I was not clear on how to decide what to keep and what to get rid of, but soon I started getting some momentum going and I used a system that helped me progress.

Soon I started seeing results and I started enjoying my home more. I spent less time stressing about how many things I still had to declutter and also spent less time organising every day.

It is still a work in progress because life happens, and specially life with two little kids, but now I feel much more confident and just do it without overthinking. I will share soon the whole process that I use when decluttering so keep tuned for more. I hope that it will be helpful and will give you the sprint that you’re needing to start!
