How can Interior Design Affect our Wellbeing?

It is often overlooked the fact that our spaces can influence our lives, and that Interior Design can affect our wellbeing.

I’m not only talking about how functionality is crucial for a good flow of movement and activities in our homes, or that furniture exist to serve a purpose. These things are the basis for a fluid use of space, and although they are really important there are also other things that must be taken into consideration.

How do I feel towards the different objects, colors, textures and spaces in my home? Are they soft, cold, warm, rough? Do they bring me happy or sad memories? Why do I have them and keep them?

All of these questions open a whole new universe of experiences and of the way that we interact and connect with our home. Ideally we want to have in our spaces only things that make us feel good; things that connect with us and that bring joy.

So start now by being a little bit more conscious about the way that you interact with your space and what type of relationship you have with each one of your pieces of furniture, decoration and accessories.

Think what things already served their purpose with you, thank them for their service and then let them go. You can sell things that are in still perfect, give away things to specific people whom you might think that can benefit or enjoy that object, donate to people who might be in need, repurpose things and upcycle them or you can throw away things that can not be repaired and that are already old or broken.

Try to look at THE INTERIOR DESIGN OF your home with fresh eyes and you will start to see how easy it becomes to identify which things make you happy and which ones must go, and why!
